Peak House
M&D are relocating to Havelock North to be closer to family and transition from rural farm life into retirement. The site, on the slopes of Te Mata Peak, has expansive views over Havelock Village, wider Hawke’s Bay, and out to sea. M&D's new home is designed to support a slower pace of daily life while easily adapting to host family, friends and larger gatherings. Construction is due to start on site at the beginning of 2026. More soon.

The site poses several challenges: a steep slope, triangular building platform, and high visibility within a sensitive landscape. The design response integrates the home into its setting through a series of landscaped terraces, with built form shaped to manage exposure to the elements. The roofline follows the natural contours, lifting to capture light and views, and lowering for shade and shelter. Internally, spaces are sequenced to frame key views and create a sense of unveiling as you move through the house.
The final design proposes a generous, flexible home tailored to M&D’s needs. It prioritises functionality, adaptability, and a strong connection to place. Materials and form have been carefully selected to sit comfortably within the landscape, aiming to enhance the experience of the site’s varied outlooks and elevated position.
